# Retrieve the wallet

> Retrieve the authoritative Social Trading balance through the CRM reference.

`GET /api/v1/wallet/external/account` returns the social wallet associated with the user. Use `external_reference` as the standard integration identifier.

## Request

```bash theme={"theme":{"light":"github-light","dark":"github-dark"}}
curl -G "https://social-api.example.com/api/v1/wallet/external/account" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_CRM_API_KEY" \
  --data-urlencode "external_reference=crm-user-127" \
  --data-urlencode "wallet_code=PAMM_SOCIAL_USD" \
  --data-urlencode "currency=USD"
```

## Response

```json theme={"theme":{"light":"github-light","dark":"github-dark"}}
{
  "user_id": 42,
  "external_reference": "crm-user-127",
  "email": "customer@example.com",
  "wallet_account_id": 105,
  "wallet_id": 1,
  "wallet_code": "PAMM_SOCIAL_USD",
  "wallet_name": "Social Wallet USD",
  "currency": "USD",
  "balance": "250.00000000",
  "available_balance": "220.00000000",
  "hold_balance": "30.00000000",
  "status": "ACTIVE",
  "created_at": "2026-07-22T17:00:00Z",
  "updated_at": "2026-07-22T17:30:00Z"
}
```

## Correct balance usage

* Display `available_balance` as the available funds.
* Retrieve it again after a deposit, withdrawal, investment, or event that may change the balance.
* Do not replace the lookup with a local calculation or balance.
* Treat amounts as decimal values, not binary `float` values.

If the API responds with `404`, the user or wallet account does not exist yet. Run SSO with `create_wallets: true`.
